Dawes Point Apartment

This project involves the merging of two existing apartments in a heritage listed 1917 military drill hall building in Dawes Point, NSW. Ceiling heights in this space exceed 3.5 metres and are ribbed on a grid with large cast iron beams. The design works within this grid of steel beams and existing door openings to give a sense of space and continuity to the apartment. The owner, a keen art collector, pushed the design to incorporate lots of space for the display and housing of art, which is why the corridor spaces have been broken down by display shelving and timber screens. Views of the apartment are elevational, views North offer a lush garden and views South offer a wall of art and objects collected over the lifetime.
